Brownback Mountain
Republican presidential hopeful, Sam Brownback, is praising Marine General Peter Pace’s condemnation of homosexuality.
The senator from Kansas said, “We should not expect someone as qualified, accomplished and articulate as General Pace to lack personal views on important moral issues. In fact, we should expect that anyone entrusted with such great responsibility will have strong moral views."
Brownback went on to say, "I do not believe being a homosexual is immoral, but I do believe homosexual acts are. I'm a Catholic and the church has clear teachings on this."
Hmmmm…we’re confused. Let me see if we understand you, sir. So, it’s okay to be gay as long as you don’t do gay things?
Oh, we see! Well that method certainly has worked well for Catholic priests!
Correct me if we’re wrong, but you are a proponent of the Constitution of the United States, right? You seem to have a strong regard for the written word. That document is extremely clear about the separation of church and state. Our Military is a federally funded organization. The moral views that have been informed by your religious affiliation hold no weight there.
Equal rights for all citizens regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is the “important moral issue.” To use your words, we expect that someone, say a president, who we “entrust with great responsibility”, will certainly fight for that “strong moral view.”
Needless to say, Brownback won’t be getting our vote.
