Monarchy Makeover

Have you seen the new ads plastered all over the subways for Showtime's new series, The Tudors, based on the the life of King Henry VIII and his multiple marriages? Johnathan Rhys Meyers from Matchpoint plays Henry 8 (who, by the way, was the father of Queen Elizabeth I, but no one wants a history lesson).

Monarchy is a great artiface to explore power, greed, and corruption. Usually, old world dramas are filled with stuffy characters in period costumes, but Showtime is no doubt taking a cue from HBO's Rome and injecting Sixteeth Century Europe with a good dose of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll attitude.

It's got us thinking about calling Time Warner and upgrading our cabel package!
